Black Lives Matter
Dearest Friends,
Circus Warehouse deplores systemic racism and inequalities, institutional bias, and violence towards the Black community. We mourn the unconscionable murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and an unspeakable number of others. We support the ongoing struggle for equality, social change, and re-education in matters of race. We support the protesters. Black Lives Matter.
None of these words are sufficient, nor is any statement. This is an emergency hundreds of years in the making. Though Circus Warehouse has benefitted from a highly diverse faculty since its inception and will continue to make a safe and empowering space for Black artists, we cannot rest there. We must bear careful witness, listen, take responsibility, and take steps to be part of the profound transformation necessary to create a racially equitable and socially just artistic community. We are still on pause at Circus Warehouse, a time to step back and reflect critically, rethink and redo, educating ourselves to become better humans on a grand scale.
I leave you with things to read and practice.
