Circus Warehouse Updated Rules as of March 14, 2020

How are you all holding up?

These are trying times, but everyone has been showing their best at Circus Warehouse and I’m proud of our strong and thoughtful community. We are in a fluid situation and are keeping up with new information as we get it. Our most reliable sources (,, WHO, Johns Hopkins) indicate that we can stay open with modifications for now. This is subject to change. We are going to make a smaller footprint to be able to better control the environment. We want to have no more than 25 people in our 8000 square foot space at a time. Please be patient as we navigate.

No one who is feeling ill in any way should be at the Warehouse at this time. We will be sending anyone who appears to have any upper-respiratory symptoms home. No exceptions. Coming back after an illness requires the recommended quarantine from the CDC and a discussion with the Director only.

Anyone who is ill must cancel class even at the last minute. You will have a credit. Do not worry about missed classes or cards that will expire. We will make any changes at no charge for now. Even if you plan to come back in a few months, we can put a Hold on your card or extend the expiration date. We are not offering refunds or we could not hope to stay in business.

Leave your bag, shoes and phones on the shelving near the desk. Do not place anything on the front desk. Go directly to the restroom and wash your hands for 20 seconds according to the directions that we’ve posted there.

NO bags on the mats unless they are equipment bags.
NO street shoes of any kind past the front desk.
NO phones on the mats. Phones are known to be germ-ridden, please keep your phone in your bag that you leave at the shelving at front desk. If you are videoing or taking photos, you must clean your phone, then place it on a paper towel, not directly on a mat or any equipment.

We have all given up our usual warm and fuzzy greetings to be entirely gestural and distant. You are welcome to devise your own non-touch stylings. Any other spotting or group activities should be done with the cleanest of hands.

Every piece of equipment is sanitized continuously during the day but you are responsible for the area you occupy, i.e. if you are using a yoga mat, you should sanitize with the spray we are providing before usage, even though we’ll have already done it. Please ask the front desk if you are unsure about surfaces and methods.

We are going to be dealing with a somewhat reduced class and workout schedule and some equipment is going to be unavailable as we employ stricter cleaning rules and observe new social distance standards. The rules might change without notice. Please continue to check back on updates on our website. We will not be booking events, showcases, rehearsals, auditions, or parties at this time. Most classes, private lessons, and some Independent Training will continue. You must have a class card or a workout card to do Independent training with us for the time being. The silks will not be available for Independent Training. Please check the online schedule for changes. The Intensive program will persevere!!

We will be providing individual packages of chalk and rosin in little bags. You may also bring your own. Please either retain and put your name on it, or throw out after class, it’s not to be shared.

We will be severely limiting our lounge area seating. If you are dropping off a friend or youngster, you will need to leave during class time and return at the end.

We are keeping up our positive outlook along with our safer training practices and I imagine we will weather this storm with the elegance and discipline that the denizens of Warehouse have always displayed.

Thank you.

Love to all,

In light of the recent news about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and in recognition of guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) we are instituting the following practices for Circus Warehouse. We feel that these measures will make sense for maintaining health and well-being during flu and cold season as well.

NO ONE who is sick with a cough or a fever can be at the Warehouse. This includes all students, faculty, private lesson folks, front desk, rentals, and all visitors. If you are sick, we will be sending you home. You must be symptom-free for a least 24 hours to be able to come to the Warehouse. If you have traveled or had prolonged contact with someone who has traveled to a high risk area, you must self-quarantine for 14 days before coming back to the Warehouse.

If you are feeling ill, please consult a doctor. You can let us know by phone or by emailing us at that you will not be in classes. Any student who is ill can have a credit for the classes that they miss.

Washing hands is going to become our latest art form:

  • 20 seconds minimum with lots of lather. One chorus of Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees should suffice for timing.
  • Any instructor or student handling another person or a piece of equipment must have clean hands, we have hand washing instructions posted in the bathroom.
  • Use tissues to cover your mouth and nose if you sneeze or cough, then discard immediately into a trash bin and wash your hands.
  • We have Purell in a bathroom dispenser and at the front desk and as well at various stations throughout the Warehouse.

We have upgraded our cleaning routine considerably and will be sanitizing “high-touch” surfaces regularly throughout each day as well as comprehensive mat and surface cleaning. We are recommending that people bring their own yoga mats for stretch and floor activities. Please put your name with a sharpie on all personal equipment.

We have changed our usual sweaty physical hugging, kissing and hand-shaking to be either:

  • Spock hands,
  • Jazz hands, or
  • Your most professional and personal bow (present yourself, gesture toward your audience, bow your head with modesty).

If you need help with your greeting skills, the front desk can demonstrate.

We are monitoring current events and will provide updates on recommended procedures on our website.

We intend to remain open for our Warehouse community. Thank you for understanding the need to expand our definition of taking care of one another.
